032 – Be Transformed by Romans

Play

Today’s episode really rocked. We loved sharing with our listeners the first two verses of Romans 12. Both John Paul and  feel that Romans Chapter 12 is an excellent map for the Christian Life. I shared that if I could drop two scriptures on a pagan nation, it would be the Gospel of Luke, because it tells the whole story of Jesus, and Mary and Chapter 12 of Romans. I urge you listeners to read the whole chapter.

John Paul felt the Holy Spirit inspiring him today to realize that stripping off the sins and the failings of the flesh is the best way to offer our bodies as a living sacrifice as our spiritual worship. Parenting requires that we offer our bodies as a living sacrifice. Marriage requires that we offer our bodies as a spiritual sacrifice. Living and preaching the Gospel requires that we offer our bodies as a living sacrifice. That is transcendent, that is contemplation in action, it is pleasing to God and Good and Holy.

We need to be transformed by the renewal of our minds. We cannot accept the standards of this world. I shared about how God transformed my mind in my early conversion about modesty in dress. Women who accept the world’s directive’s that women have to be sexy to be beautiful, are not conforming to God’s wisdom. We can be beautiful Christian women. John Paul feels strongly in the same way.

Listen in and be inspired to be transformed.

Of course, our Scripture is Romans 12:1-2

031 – The Trusting Parent

Play

In our last episode on “Who’s in Control?”, we said that we would follow up with the theme on trust. The trusting parent is called by our scripture today  to “rely not on our own intelligence.” The world has so many voices about what is good for families, but truly the only one we can really trust is the Lord. I shared about our time at Youth With A Mission in American Samoa. Frank and I were the houseparents for several young adults who lived and did ministry out of the home we shared. As a twelve year old, Beau desperately wanted to fit in. with the young adults in the team. But occasionally they wanted to do ministry or recreation that did not include him. I could see that really was difficult for him.  I turned to the Lord in prayer and He told me, “Don’t you think I can pick out the best circumstances for you and your whole family?” Since that time I have trusted that Frank and I have to hear God and trust He has the right major and minor decisions that will be good for the whole family.

John Paul witnessed to the faithfullness of God when  we try to surrender all to Him. Sometimes it moves fast and other times His timing is not what we want of expect. It is like God says, “Wait, wait, wait and then Hurry up.” Our parenting of toddlers, children, teens and young adults requires our trusting in a Lord that we have a relationship with. He is the one who absolutely knows what is the best way to encourage, discipline and heal our families. Listen in to today’s shorter episode on trust. You will be blessed.

Our Scripture is Proverbs 3: 5 Trust in the Lord your God with all of your heart and rely not on your own intelligence….

030- Who Is In Control of Your Children?

Play

John Paul and I were laughing at how much the podcast ministers to us. We, ourselves, need to hear what God is saying about our topics. Today’s theme is inspired by the challenge of parenting children of all ages in terms of the control of our families. John Paul presents the issue, “Who is in Control of our Children?” He talks about this from a young parent’s perspective. All children are their own person, the growing up process involves finally being able to control our lives. However, ultimately, we are all God’s children. Humbly submitting our sufferings and challenges in parenting to Christ Jesus is the answer. The SOLUTION IS SANCTITY.  We need to be Holy ourselves, and then we need to impart the need for holiness to our children. We need to know for sure the foibles of toddlers and teens are not symptoms of bad parenting. Our response is the essential ingredient in allowing the Lord to be in control through us.

Basically it is an attitude adjustment. Children are a blessing, our families have to be normal. What is normal? I say that the sanctified family IS normal. The Lord and the Church set the norms. We can train ourselves and our children to live a Holy Life. A holy life does not necessarily look much different than the average life. Holy families go on picnics, hunt, fish, have parties, go to theme parks, have sleepovers, play soccer, throw beautiful weddings, celebrate life’s events, etc. etc. But life in a sanctified family is different in its essence. We, parents, will have to answer to the Lord, we will be held accountable. Our children have to help us when we give our report to God. They will have to have loved and respected us and Christ and it will have served them well. Listen in and be inspired.

Our Scripture for today is Proverbs 22:6. Train the young in the way they should go….

029 – Reaching the Prodigal Son

Play

The Father Embraces the Prodigal Son

John Paul and I loved exploring the parable of the prodigal son today. In my almost forty years of serving the Lord, one of the most often and most earnest prayer requests that I have had is for children, adult children who hvae strayed from the faith and gotten caught up in the allures of this world, the traps of desire for pleasure. Many parents can see that their children are wallowing in the pig styes of this world and are desperate for them to return home. Our episode today explored the attitudes and truths of the parable of the prodigal son (daughters, brothers and sisters, husbands and wives, co-workers, etc.)  What is Jesus trying to tell us about the prodigal son? What is He trying to teach us about a father who waits in longing for his son?

John Paul talks about this parable from the point of view of the prodigal sons themselves. His testimony is about not giving in to the idea that we are too unworthy for the return to the Father. He speaks to those who are having trouble finding their way back from needing to explore the world and its empty promises to the role of at least being one of the Father’s servants.

Listen in, you will be blessed. See you next time.

028 – Welcome Oliver William Summers, JP’s Son Is Born

Play

Welcome Oliver William Summers' to the Family!

Sorry the podcast is coming to you a little late, but I had to record in the hospital and it has taken some time to get through a few technical difficulties. Tuesday afternoon at 5:17 pm Jill and I’s new addition, Oliver William Summers, was born at 7 lbs 15 oz. We are so happy to have him here with us, and I am excited to share the story of his arrival with you! God is so faithful and I am reminded so much of his goodness when I look at the masterful creation that is Oliver. I am so privileged to be a part of God’s body and to bring Oliver into this same body of Christ. What an amazing and powerful responsibility it is to be a parent. It’s not often that we get moments of serenity to see all the good that God has blessed us with, these past few days has been one of those moments in my life!

You might notice there is no intro or outro music; have no fear we’ll be back Monday with a fully produced episode from the studio!
