Yay! We are back on our fall schedule and excited about being with you, our podcast listeners. Today we thought we’d branch out and talk about a topic that is a little edgy, even for “sold out” Catholics. We talked about attitudes again: we know that beyond a shadow of a doubt, the Lord wants to bless us with children. I have shared in my talks to groups that the Lord never says in Scripture, ” I will curse you with children.” On the contrary, our mighty God and loving Father wants to bless us with abundance, and God’s abundant blessings always mentions, “I will multiply your children.”
John Paul and I read the portion of Humanae Vitae that declares that for ”grave considerations” Catholics may avail themselves of the option of refraining from sexual relations based on the periodic infertility, to space their children. John Paul and I are certainly not opposed to Natural Family Planning in its intended context and where there is a real heart felt openess to life. But NFP can’t be used to allow ourselves to make a shopping list of why another child would really cramp our style.
John Paul is passionate about the present children and future children of God’s Kingdom. What if he and Jill had waited until Jill finished school before having Elliot and Oliver? They are who they are, born at their perfect time.
