October 11, the beginning of the Year of Faith, was our theme for the podcast today. John Paul and I are embracing the Holy Father’s decision to declare this important Cardinal Virtue as the focus of this Church year. I woke up a couple of days ago, super “pumped up” about the Year of Faith. I shared on the podcast that the world around us has so many bleak things on the horizon, but I believe that the Year of Faith is going to have a bigger impact on the world we live in than presidential elections in the United States. It is our opportunity to enter into the New Evangelization and reach out to our Catholic brothers and sisters (our listeners) with the message of the Gospel.
John Paul shared that October 11, 2012 is the fiftieth anniversary of the second Vatican Council, and the twentieth anniversary of the New Cathechism. Today also marks the opening of the Synod of the Bishops in Rome on the New Evangelization. John Paul really liked the metaphor that the Pope used in his Apostolic Letter, Porta Fidei – the “Door of Faith.” Blessings pass both ways through the door of faith. ”Christ sends us through the highways of the world to proclaim the His Gospel to all the peoples of the earth.” Although it is good to uphold traditions, both John Paul and I feel that if you want to “go back” to some golden age of the Church, hearken back to the Acts of the Apostles or the early Church whose Fresh dynamic and signs and wonders saw hordes of conversions every day. Paul the VI said in Evangeli Nuntiandi, “We need to recover the same apostolic zeal as that of the early Christian communities, which, though small and defenseless, were able through their proclamation and witness, to spread the Gospel throughout the known world.” Wow! we have to beg the Lord for that zeal.
We updated our listeners on good things that are coming soon. My book, Our Family’s Book of Acts: to Love and Serve the Lord will be released in early November. This book is the perfect vehicle to fan into flame our Catholic Faith, our love for Jesus, our belief in His Holy Spirit. We are calling out to find other “Creatives” among our Catholic audience who deeply desire, who are zealous for permeating the media with excellent content for the building of the Kingdom of God. Get in touch with us, let’s see what God can do with excellent media in the Year of Faith. Listen in. We were fired up.
Our Scripture for today was - Acts 14: 27 ”They gathered the Church together, they proclaimed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles.”
